Kollur Mookambika Temple is a famous Hindu temple in Karnataka situated at the foothills of Kodachadri hills on the south bank of the Souparnika River. According to legend, this temple is situated on Gokarna and Kanyakumari in an area that is believed to have been built by sage Parashurama. 


The presiding deity of the temple is a Swayambhu (self) Jyotirlinga and it is cut in half into a golden triangle on the left half and half. Rathotsava and Navratri are the major festivals of this temple in the month of Falgun, and tourists and devotees visit this temple in large numbers during this time.

According to the scriptures, the Mookambika Devi Temple was founded by Shankaracharya. Adi Shankaracharya had installed the idol of the Goddess on “Srichakra Yantra”. 



Sri Shankaracharya’s back is on the west bank of the temple area. Even today, worship is done in this ancient temple according to the Vijayagama method built by Adi Shankara.

There is “Nirmalya Puja” every day at 5 in the morning and during that the devotees get an opportunity to see the Swayambhu Lingam. Trikala puja is performed every day in the temple. 



Thousands of devotees visit this holy pilgrimage site to relieve their sufferings and fulfill their religious vows. The natural beauty of this temple gives the devotees an experience of immense joy and prosperity.

Lakhs of devotees from different states of India visit this temple. Every Tuesday, Friday, and in the month of Shravan or on the Maul Nakshatra (which is the birthday of Sri Devi) of the month of Phalgun, a large crowd of devotees gathers here.
