In October 2014, Larsen & Toubro began construction of the statue after making the lowest bid at 2,989 crores (US $ 436.39 million). Construction began on 31 October 2013. The construction of the statue was completed in mid-October 2018. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on October 31, 2018, on the occasion of Sardar Patel’s birthday.

The concrete towers that make up the statue’s legs have two elevators that can take a gallery of 26 people to the viewing gallery in 30 seconds.

About 5700 metric tonnes of structural steel and 18500 metric tonnes of reinforcement bars were used in the construction of this statue.
