History of Champavati Temple

According to legend Champavati, daughter of King Varman, was a very religious and worshiped girl. She regularly visited temples and ashrams of sadhus. The king was suspicious of his daughter.

One day when Champavati went out to go to the ashrams of the sadhus, the king followed her with a dagger. After going some distance, Champavati went to the ashram of a monk, the king followed her and reached that ashram, but she saw that neither her daughter nor there was any monk in that ashram.

The king felt compelled to come back from the ashram when a heavenly voice called out to the king and told him that his daughter had been taken away as punishment for his actions and to avoid further calamities, she would be given a homage in her honor. A grand temple should be built. In this way, the Champavati temple was built by King Varman in memory of his daughter.
